What a UK invoice must include
To be valid and get paid on time, a UK invoice should clearly show:
- The word "Invoice" and a unique invoice number
- Your name or business name, address and contact details
- The client's name and address
- The invoice date (and supply date if different)
- A clear description of the work or goods, with amounts
- The total amount due and your payment terms
- If VAT registered: your VAT number and the VAT amount
Only add VAT if you are VAT registered. If you're not, leave it off entirely.
